Just another Monday morning. Preparing to step into the crowded subway. Darn Amsterdam public transport system won't allow more then one subway vehicle every 15 minutes in our area. Had I been living on the other side of this suburb then I might not have this problem...
Someone yelled my name.
First reaction: Who the hell knows me, I just friggin' moved here!
Then: Wait, my highschool is in this neighbourhood... And one of my former classmates lives around the block. It could be... Her.
Ten minutes later I stepped out on a platform again. Head is filled with old memories and new information.
Me: So you're saying she's married. And pregnant!
She: Yes, yes! Within a month she bought a house, married her first love and got pregnant.
Me: ... She's our age.
We were talking about our former best friend. The romantic type who always daydreamed about guys, had a never ending crush on this Asian pop star and put posters of Nick Carter above her bed (oh wait, we all did!). The one who always joked about being knocked up. The one who always ordered a Surinamese spicy 'broodje peper' and coke during lunch, and would burn her tongue as a result. Whom house and family is always so warm and welcome, I'd liked coming over every day...
And now she's really knocked up. Planned though. And she's my age...
